Curious about canning?
Preserving food, particularly canning fruits, vegetables, meats and fish is an exact food science, and it is important to be diligent when preparing food for canning. Making fruit or berry jam is the perfect place to start.
Learn “beginning canning” from a Certified Food Safety Instructor and participate in a hands-on "jam session". Familiarize yourself with equipment, methods, and ingredients. Take home a jar of jam that you helped make yourself.
This workshop is offered just as berries are becoming ready to harvest in our region. Learn to preserve, then put your new skills to use soon following the class so the information is fresh - like the fruit!
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTION: Participants are asked to bring a shelf-stable food item (or items) as part of their class fee. These will be donated to the Bellingham Food Bank. Please note, modest donations are most welcome! This is not about quantity so much as reinforcing the idea that we are here to care for one another.
Class size is limited to only five cooks to give everyone a chance to actively participate.
